REASONS WHY CUSTOM CLOSET ORGANIZATION IS HELPFUL

Keeping your closet organized doesn't just mean getting rid of what you don't wear and finding a place for everything else. Folding items properly and maintaining cleanliness are crucial elements, but staying true to organization means taking it a step further. It takes time creating an organized closet space--and utilizing custom closet organization can be the key to true organization.

Closet Connection creates custom cabinets and custom closets that meet the unique needs of each customer. Every customer has their own list of hobbies, interests, and habits that impact how they stay organized. When you work with our custom closet specialists, we take all your lifestyle factors into account so we can create the ideal space for you.

How is specializing a closet space possible and why is it important? There are many reasons why creating a unique, personalized space is the key to a comfortable, organized closet:

  • Smarter storage. When you utilize a custom closet or custom cabinet, you are filling a large space with unique storage solutions. This means more of your personal items are stored where you want them in the way you want them. Our team uses every inch of space wisely and if you want organization neatly constructed from floor to ceiling, we will do just that. Custom closet organization unique to your needs means smarter storage options for the long haul.

  • Maximize space. It feels great when you walk into a room and know that every drawer and shelf is being used for something important. When you feel connected to certain items, you want them in the safest spot possible. Custom closet organization allows you to truly create a space that has maximum purpose for everything you hold dear to your heart. Since every customer has different likes and dislikes, custom closet organization meets those specific needs in a new way.

  • Ultimate personality. Every human being is unique. As we've stated, the same goes for each of the customers we meet at Closet Connection! Our team of specialists works with you to create a custom closet or cabinet fitting your vision, needs, and personality. If you're someone who prefers a specific material, we will work with you to get that. If you like rounded edges or sharp, straight lines, we take that into account. It's your space. We want it to feel like home!

HOW-TO GUIDE: CLOSET CLEANOUT

Start Cleaning
Begin your closet cleanout with labelling five boxes or bags with these categories: off-season, donate, sentimental, altering or mending, and trash. Then follow these simple steps, and your closet will change from chaotic to coordinated!

Fashion Doubt? Throw It Out!
Donate clothing that’s out of style.

Use It or Lose It!
If you won’t wear it, get rid of it.

Still Got a Tag? Throw It in the Bag!
If you never wore that shirt you bought, donate it.

Button Lost? Give It a Toss!
Store clothes that need repairing or altering.

Big or Small, No Good at All!
Be honest about what fits you and donate the rest.

Missing One? That’s No Fun!
Stop hanging on to those mismatched socks or gloves.

Out Of Season? It’s Closet Treason!
Store out-of-season clothing in labeled boxes somewhere else.

Are Your Shoes Singin’ The Blues?
Donate old and damaged shoes, purses, and accessories.

Sentimental? The Solution’s Elemental!
Store sentimental or meaningful clothing in another box.

Overflow? Something’s Got To Go!
Every time you purchase something new, get rid of something old.

Get Organized
Make sure your clothing, accessories, and other items are easy to see and reach by following these tips.

Divide and Conquer
Divide clothes into groups: short items (shirts), outfits (suits), and long items (dresses). Then organize groups by color and then by casual to dressy.

Keep it Consistent
Hang everyday items on hangers, making sure everything faces the same way.

See the Possibilities
Separate suits and outfit pieces to see more combination possibilities. Fold sweaters, t-shirts, and jeans, and store them where they can be seen.

Optimize for Space
Sort shoes by height and alternate how the shoes face to help them fit on the shelves. Shoe trees can help extend the life of men’s shoes.

Label it
Label seasonal items so they’re easy to find. Label your child’s clothing and teach him or her how to put things away where they belong.

Build Up Donations
Keep a bag on hand. When you find items you don’t want anymore, put them in the bag, and then donate everything once the bag is full.

Stay Organized
Once you’ve put your closet in order, all you need to do is keep it that way. Follow these rules for maintaining your newly found order.

Finish Your Laundry
Stay on top of your laundry by folding it, hanging it, or putting it away as soon as it’s done.

Maximize Your Storage
Store shoes and outerwear in a closet near your front door, under the bed, or in the garage.

Monitor Your Habits
Start the season with all your hangers turned one way and flip each hanger as you use that item. Then you’ll know what to get rid of at the end of the season.

Get Creative
Use creative solutions to store everything else; hang scarves from a towel bar, use empty gift boxes for undergarments, or hang jewelry from hooks.
WALK-IN CLOSET TIPS
The best way to get everything you want out of a walk-in closet build is to envision the space you want ahead of time. Create your vision by reading the following information and deciding what’s most important to you.

Questions to Consider
Whatever your answers to these questions, you should find a reputable, licensed, and insured contractor that can help optimize your walk-in closet.
  • What are your daily habits when it comes to accessing the items in your closet?
  • Will you need any electrical equipment installed in your closet?
  • How will the features of your closet enhance the value of your home?
  • Do you want to spend plenty of time in your closet, or get in and out as soon as possible?
Tips for Closet Construction
Keep in mind these main questions so that your contractor can take care of all the technical details to make sure you’re satisfied with the results.
  • What kind of doors do you want? (Swinging doors, sliding mirror doors, etc.)
  • Do you want a unique or traditional closet shape?
  • Do you want a custom vanity installed in your closet?
  • Would counter space or an island for display purposes be ideal for you?
  • Do you want to add some natural light with a window or skylight?
  • How much space will you need for hanging items?
  • What type of flooring do you want?
  • Will you need outlets for ironing or charging devices?
Ways to Accessorize
The perfect walk-in closet has all the space you need for all your belongings. Consider the following when you start planning the design of your walk-in closet.
  • Mirror cabinets, mounted mirrors, or slide-out mirrors can add a lot to a closet.
  • A swivel or fold-down ironing board can make this task much more convenient.
  • Keep your dirty laundry in a hidden place with a hamper.
  • Custom shoe cubbies will accommodate your shoe collection, no matter its size.
HOW-TO GUIDE: CURATED LIVING
A disorganized room can create feelings of chaos and disharmony, limiting your ability to process information. Minimizing stressors has a positive impact on sleep and daily living by giving you more time and mental space for the important things in life. A more ordered space can put things in perspective, helping you own things instead of letting them own you. Read these sections to learn how to create an “organization nirvana” in any room in your home.

Bedrooms
  • Make sure your décor is meaningful; the first things you see upon entering the room or waking up should bring you joy.
  • Keep any clothing and accessories you feel good wearing and say goodbye to the rest.
  • Organize your clothing by length so that you have space underneath shorter items for a hamper.
  • Add hanging storage for shoes or other items.
  • Put all your daily change, keys, and wallet in a decorative bowl at the end of the day and clear out the extras every week.
Home Offices
  • Keep everything you use the most in one easy-to-reach location.
  • Maintain a clean area by regularly wiping down all surfaces.
  • Go paperless as much as possible. Think about investing in a document scanner.
  • Consider various solutions for organizing your power strips and extension cords.
  • Instead of stocking up on office supplies, just buy as much as you need.
Bathrooms
  • Commit to keeping it clean. Consider putting together a schedule or noting it on your calendar.
  • Decorate for harmony by keeping bottles organized and choosing décor that makes you smile.
  • Get rid of expired personal products and prescriptions.
  • Maximize storage with organizer trays, roll-out wire baskets, and other organization solutions.
Kitchens
  • Store items used most often in easy-to-reach locations.
  • Organize kitchen tools and ingredients based on what types of things you tend to cook or bake.
  • If you like to cook and bake new things every day, group items by function.
  • Keep all your favorite recipes and recipe clippings in a binder or on your phone or tablet.
  • Make sure trash cans are in a convenient location and emptied often.
How-to Guide: Gearing Up
When you live an adventurous life, you should be able to access all the gear you need at a moment’s notice. All the equipment in your life should have its place, whether you enjoy camping and hiking with your spouse or your children are involved in soccer, baseball, basketball, or another activity. We have a few tips for maintaining and accessing your gear all year long.

Organize It
  • Keep athletic equipment organized by activity.
  • Place the most used items in the most convenient places.
  • Donate old or gently used gear to organizations like YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Special Olympics, or Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program.
  • Sell valuable items like treadmills or stationary bikes on Craigslist or eBay.
Store It
  • Make sure gear that’s out of season is stored separately on off-seasons.
  • If you use all gear all year long, think about rotating grouped items.
  • Put camping gear together for ease of packing. Remember to turn sleeping bags inside out; wash and hang tents; and remove fuels, flammables, and batteries before storing your camping gear.
  • When you’ve run out of garage space, consider moving certain gear to the laundry room or mudroom.
Clean It
  • Keep equipment away from dusty, dirty, or moist environments.
  • When a full cleaning isn’t needed, be sure to air out gear after use.
  • Use vinegar in a spray bottle to clean off things like helmets and pads.
  • After cleaning your gear, apply a few drops of scented oil to improve the smell.
  • Sprinkle baking soda into your shoes and equipment bags. For sweaty uniforms, a soaking in four tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of warm water will do the trick.
